Finding a CFI is not hard. You can walk into any flight school at a local airport (assuming your local airport has a flight school) and they will assign you a flight instructor. Finding the right CFI is incredibly hard. Today, you can’t find the CFI you want to fly with. You are assigned a CFI by the school or FBO (Fixed Based Operator). Yet this is such an integral relationship, one of mentorship, coaching and teaching – and an expensive one – its imperative you find the best CFI for you. If you are a CFI, you might be working with a current flight school. Perhaps you’re independent and are trying to build your clientele. We can help with both. Flight schools typically take 50%-60% commission and generally charge between $50-80/hr for your work. Which means you take around $25-$40/hr for flying. Some schools pay you for ground, some don’t. Since the FAA limits your flight time to 8hrs over a 24hr period your earnings and flight time is very limited. Additionally, most CFI’s leave a booking buffer of 30-45 minutes before and after each flight lesson to allow for briefing and debriefing, sometimes longer if more ground training is required a more detailed debrief is needed. This translates with weather and maintenance variables added in to about $50,000/year of income. We aim to help the best instructors rise to the top and thus allow the market to determine what they can charge/hour.
